Oswell's big inspiration was his aunt Locardia Ndandarika, one of the most celebrated female Zimbabwean artists. He started to learn the art by polishing her sculptures. He started his own career, when he came to Chitungwiza Arts Centre together with his oncle Ronnie Dongo.

In 2012 Oswell died because of tuberculosis, at that time he worked at Chitungwiza Arts Centre.
